Why am I a Druid?
I feel closest to my soul when I am in nature, especially when I am in the company of trees, within a wild wood or in an ancient stone circle.
I am a long practicing Druid with the Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD). They define Druidry as ‘…a spiritual way and practice that speaks to three of our greatest yearnings: to be fully creative in our lives, to commune deeply with the world of Nature, and to gain access to a source of profound wisdom.’
I love that Druidism is a personal spiritual journey, not a religious one – a path that is open to everyone whatever their beliefs. I love how it has helped me connect and heal so many different aspects of myself and how it continues to help me connect more and more deeply to energy and to nature.
I have completed both the Bardic and Ovate grades and feel deeply committed to be of service as an Ovate.
‘If the Bardic grade teaches us of the wonders of the Natural World, then the Ovate grade takes our hand, and leads us into the deep forest. The Druids and trees are inextricably linked, and it is here, in the Ovate grade, that the work with trees and herbs begins. The Ovates (or Vates) were the Druidic Seers, so it is within the safety of the forest that we begin to work with the skills of divination, healing, and the magic of the Earth…’ The Druid Network
I love how Druidry brings me back to the present space and time over and over. My practice means that I connect with the energy of each day along with the seasons, the solstices, equinoxes and fire festivals across the wheel of the year, in my grove under the goat willows here in the beautiful Devon countryside.
